Ubrique - Asomadillas Path

Ubrique - Asomadillas Path
At the end of Fuentenueva Street in Jimena de la Frontera, at the edge of town, where it intersects with the CA-8201 road (Jimena de la Frontera-Puerto Galis), the trail begins at the well-known "Cortijo de las Tenerías" (Cortijo de las Tenerías), near the "Los Alcornocales" campsite. It ends at approximately the same point.
This trail begins at the Las Tenerías crossroads, ascending along the Vereda de Ubrique, the old road to Seville. This section coincides with the start of one of the stages of the GR7 E4 as it passes through Jimena de la Frontera. The first stretch is currently paved. This is a first encounter with one of the species that, along with the cork oak, plays a major role in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park: the wild olive tree, which leads us to a buje area with the town of Jimena de la Frontera behind us.
After leaving the cobblestones, a path leads us to a forest track, which we cross using two gates. We continue upwards along a firebreak, where we find the first stone pines that reforested these public mountains in the past. This firebreak, following a signpost to the left, will guide us to the forest track of Mount Benazainillas, which we follow until we reach the Mirador del Puerto de las Asomadillas, a spot from which we can enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the Hozgarganta River, the only river in Andalusia whose course has not been modified, Lomas de Cámara, El Aljibe as the highest point in the Natural Park, and the town of Jimena de la Frontera crowned by its Castle.
From here, we return via the pedestrian crossing and, parallel to the fence, we continue along the edge of the mountain to another pedestrian crossing that will allow us to cross the CA-8201 road. We descend through a pine forest towards the Hozgarganta River.
The last few meters of the trail give way to a path that leads us to this unique river. To cross it, we use a concrete footbridge. The route continues along the right bank, now downstream, following the marked trail. Before reaching a farmhouse, we turn off toward the river where there is another concrete footbridge. From here, we can enjoy the clarity and quality of its waters. We finish this trail by ascending a few last meters, leaving the river behind us, back to the point where we started.
