The municipality of Genalguacil is already preparing to live with intensity and joy its Fair and Patron Saint Festivities in honor of San Pedro Mártir de Verona, celebrations that will take place between April 28 and May 1 with an extensive program of activities aimed at residents and visitors that has been organized by the Junta de Festejos 'Jardines del Vizier' in collaboration with the Genalguacil Town Hall.
It so happens that these patron saint festivities are the first of the year to be celebrated among the towns that make up the Valle del Genal.
To begin, on Friday, April 28 from 2:30 p.m., the Genalguacil Fair and Patron Saint Festivities 2023 will kick off with a lunch aimed at the elderly in which an award ceremony will take place. Then the live music will begin with a performance by the copla artist Inmaculada Paniagua and a group. In addition, from shortly before midnight two new orchestras will entertain the evening.
On Saturday, April 29, the big day of the 2023 Genalguacil Fair, it will start at 9:30 a.m. with the launch of rockets and with the flowery target that the Jubrique Municipal Music Band will perform.
Starting at noon, one of the most anticipated moments of the festivities will arrive, and that is that after the solemn mass in honor of San Pedro Mártir de Verona, in which the 'Virgen del Rocío' Choir will participate, the Patron Saint of Genalguacil will go in procession the streets of the municipality accompanied by hundreds of people, who will live these moments with emotion and fervor, and by the Jubrique Municipal Music Band. Afterwards, a wine tasting will be offered in the square.
At 4 in the afternoon the proclamation of the festivities will take place, which on this occasion will be given by Raquel Holgado Macías. Then the day fair will be enlivened by two musical groups. At night, around 10:00 p.m., a new procession of the Patron will take place in which the Jubrique Municipal Music Band will once again participate and, at its end, live music will once again be the protagonist during several hours.
The activities scheduled for Sunday will begin at 11 in the morning with training for the clay pigeon shooting competition. Later, from 2 o'clock, a brass band will go through the streets and squares of Genalguacil, enlivening the atmosphere for the start of the tapas route, in which various establishments in the town will participate. At 5:30 in the afternoon the musical performances will begin with a flamenco fusion performance, the participation of a DJ and two musical groups at night.
Finally, at 11 in the morning on Monday, May 1, the clay pigeon shooting competition will take place and a free rice will be offered to all those attending the square starting at 2:30 p.m., after which a group will entertain the afternoon. In addition, from 5 the little ones will have the opportunity to enjoy a children's gala that will be carried out by 'La Carpa Teatro'. At the end the music will continue until the celebrations are finished.
In the Valle del Genal area, this fair is an event highly anticipated by all throughout the year, since it means the beginning of the round of fairs that each town later celebrates. In addition to the fun that the programmed activities guarantee, they are always days of joy for the reunion with family and friends.
